Ozone Therapy
What is Ozone Therapy?
In the medical field, ozone has incredible therapeutic potential. It has been shown to support broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity combating bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Ozone can be used acutely to address colds and flus or it can be used to address more chronic conditions such as herpetic infections, mold toxicity, fatigue, and Lyme Disease.
Without question, ozone therapy is becoming an essential tool for a broad range of doctors from oncologists to age-management specialists, and is an integral part of many comprehensive alternative medicine treatment programs
Types of Ozone Therapy
Ozone IV Therapy
Ozone IV therapy is a unique and integrative treatment given intravenously to introduce ozone into the blood, increasing the amount of oxygen within your blood cells. Autohemotherapy, another name for this process, began in Germany during the early 1950’s and has gained recognition within the United States with more and more physicians understanding the health benefits.
Ozone IV therapy is the most common and effective way ozone therapy is conducted. This process involves the removal of 6-12 ounces of blood from the body via a sterilized system. Once the blood is collected, it is then contained in a sterilized container. Ozone is injected into the container and mixed gently with the blood allowing blood cells to take up the ozone and then returning the ozonated blood to the body via a sterilized delivery system. The entire process takes approximately 1 hour.
The powerful and natural healing benefits obtained using Ozone IV therapy treatment:
- Suppressing infections by killing viruses, bacteria and yeast
- Effective treatment of resistant pathogens found in chronic conditions
- Improves circulation by enhancing blood flow
- Potent immune modulator which keeps your immune system in top condition
- Stimulates mitochondria to give your cells’ “powerhouse” energy
- Increases antioxidant protection and capabilities by stimulating enzyme system
Ozone IV therapy regulates the immune system with its unique actions on blood cells, while also stimulating the DPG enzyme to promote the release of oxygen from hemoglobin. These actions produce optimal oxygen to your blood which is needed to inhibit and fight disease or calm the over-reactive response found in autoimmune disease.
Rectal Insufflation
During rectal insufflations, a mix of ozone/oxygen is introduced through a catheter into the colon. It’s a type of oxygen gas enema. The procedure is usually performed following a bowel movement or a colonic treatment in order to ensure the colon is relatively free of fecal matter. The ozone enters the lower intestine, is held for as long as possible, and over this period it is absorbed into the system.
The ozone helps remove inflammation, and kills pathogens like bacteria, viruses, parasites and yeast. It can also help restore healthy gut flora.
Vaginal Insufflation
A vaginal cannula is used to introduce the ozone gas to the patient. Many women have reported relief from yeast infections and various sexually transmitted diseases including herpes. Many women also use this method as an alternative to rectal insufflation as it is theorized that the ozone not only affects the pelvic region, but also enters the general circulation causing a body wide effect.
Women must not use this method close to, or during the time of menstruation as ozone at these concentrations increases blood flow.
